Do you know that feeling, your curls no longer look the way you want them to... you actually need to wash your hair, but you don't feel like it at all. Putting your hair in a ponytail can be an option. But did you know that it is also possible to give your hair a brand new refresh even on day 8? Babs from CurlsByBabs explains in the video how to easily do this!
What is a refresh?
A refresh is simply bringing your curls back to life without washing them. There are many different methods for this; For example, you can only use water, but also a gel and, for example, cream. It's important to try different ways of refreshing so you discover the best method for your hair!
How long can you postpone your washday?
Basically, you can postpone your laundry day for as long as you want. Some curlies like to wash their hair at least once or twice a week, but there are also many curlies who only start washing again after day 8. This completely depends on your wishes and the condition of your hair.
How much time does a refresh take?
Refreshing your curls often does not take much time; count on approximately 5 to 10 minutes. It just depends on what your hair needs.
Which products do you need to refresh your curls?
You need this when refreshing your curls;
- Water sprayer
- Gel
- Cream (you choose a cream or leave-in)
- Leave-in (you choose a cream or leave-in)
- Microfiber towel
- Hair section clamps
- Diffuser
Step by step refresh:
- First dampen your hair with the water spray.
- Divide your hair into two parts (bottom and top) with the clamps.
- Now take the cream (or leave-in), and take a little in your palm.
- Apply the cream (or leave-in) now on the lower part of your hair.
- Now loosen the top part of your hair, take some cream again and apply it to your hair.
- Divide the remaining cream over your hair.
- Now divide your hair into two parts again and take the gel.
- Apply the gel as you applied the cream.
- Have you had the top and bottom parts? Then you bring your head forward. Now apply a little water again and scrunch/knead the gel into your hair. To do this, stand in different positions so that you can knead all parts of your hair well.
- Now use a microfiber towel to squeeze the excess water from your hair. Again, stand in different positions to get all the moisture out properly.
- Then apply gel again, glaze (stroke) the gel over your hair, and then squeeze it again.
- Then grab the diffuser and blow-dry it completely, 100% dry.

You want a fast refresh method
The above videos and step-by-step plan show in detail how to give your curls a new boost. Are you looking for a faster method? Then try refreshing sprays . You can refresh your hair with one product: simply spray, squeeze into shape and blow-dry briefly if necessary.
What if a refresh 'fails' every time?
We hear a lot of curlies who often indicate that the refresh does not always work well. The solution is to experiment: more gel, less gel, use a leave-in, don't use a leave-in, etc. If you don't feel like doing this, our advice is: wash!
