A co-wash is a product for daily use. It contains cleansers but also conditioning agents.   Some people say it is okay to only clean you hair with a conditioner, but it is not. A conditioner is not made for cleansing your hair. Co washes contains mild cleansers. o it actually has 2 functions: It cleans your hair (cleansing agents) and it has a conditioner function. By this we mean in other words that moisture is brought back into your hair after it has been cleaned.

The history of cowashing

Co-washing is therefore a mild way to properly clean your hair and scalp. Because with a co-wash you can be sure that your scalp will not be stripped by washing all natural skin oils from your scalp. With a co-wash you ensure that your hair remains soft, retains sufficient moisture and you can easily comb it during or after use. The co wash has been around for several years and at the time was widely used by women with thick curly hair. Over the years and the emerging trend of using a co-wash, many different co-washes have been formulated. Due to new techniques and the use of new or different ingredients, the co-washes are currently suitable for all types of curls and textures of hair.

It depends on how it is described on the label of your product. Every brand or manufacturer makes products that are tested for proper use. We therefore always recommend that you follow the label. However, there is a common way of using and applying the co wash.

But most of the time you can use it by making your hair wet and massage the cowash into your scalp. Apply it also on the lenghts. You can also brush your hair at this point, or use your fingers to detangle your hair well. Then rinse it all out. Do you suffer from dry hair? Then you can also use a conditioner after using a co-wash.

How often you use a co-wash depends on your preferences. Some curlies use a co-wash with every wash, skipping the shampoo altogether. Others use it once a week. So one week a CG Shampoo and the next week a co-wash. When you use a co-wash also depends on how your hair reacts to a co-wash.

Guideline for the use of a co-wash

Based on our own and our customers' experiences, we give you a guideline. We recommend that you use a CG Shampoo every week. Do you want to wash it more often? then you can get started with the co-wash. So did you wash your hair twice a week? Then use a CG Shampoo one wash and a co-wash the next. Do you want to wash it more than 2 times? Then you can also opt for a conditioner. But, for an extra clean feeling, you can also use a co-wash after the 3rd or 4th wash. So check for yourself what you prefer and of course not unimportant: See how your hair reacts to using a co-wash more or less.

Co-washes can be used by every curl type and texture. It is very important to use every week a shampoo if you using a cowash in between washdays.

As indicated, most co-wash items have been greatly improved over the years. We have gained more knowledge about ingredients over the years. This has resulted in the fact that many brands and manufacturers indicate that many cowashes can be used for every curl type and texture. However, we do recommend that you keep a close eye on your hair in certain situations if you want to use a co-wash. Co washing with finer hair? Then we recommend that you keep a close eye on your hair, or select light products within our shop. A co-wash may be too harsh for finer hair. However, this of course varies from person to person. There are also plenty of curlies that do benefit from co-washing fine hair. Do you suffer from build up? Then we recommend you to CG Shampoo in your routine in lieu of a co-wash. It is possible that you suffer from hair that quickly experiences buildup, then we do not recommend using a cowash. If you do want it, choose a light product.

Which co-wash is right for you depends on your wishes and your hair type. Do you have medium to thick hair? Then all co-wash products in this collection are suitable for you. Do you have finer hair? Then make sure you click on the box for fine hair next to the filter. Of course, all items on our website are CG.

Furthermore, a co wash is suitable for:
  1. Anyone who wants to wash it more often
  2. Do you often exercise
  3. You are often in an environment where washing your hair more often is more pleasant

A co-wash has many advantages, but what are the disadvantages and how can you best deal with this?

  • Buildup at cowashing

This is the most common problem with co-washing. Do you regularly use a co-wash? Then it is really recommended to use a cg shampoo weekly or regularly. A co-wash contains cleansing ingredients, but this may be just a little too little for some to really remove all leftovers. So you can continue to cowash, but are your hair becoming dulcet and does it sag? Then definitely try a cg shampoo!

  • Oily hair when using a co wash

Some curlies and especially women with a looser curl and/or fine hair (wavy's) notice that the hair can become greasy faster by using a cowash. Preferably use a light cowash for fine hair and/or a loose curl. You can select within our filters on light products. Many cowashes contain butters and oil (which have a nourishing effect). Keep a close eye on your hair if you suffer from greasy hair.

  • Itchy scalp when cowashing

This point has to do with the build-up point. Because there are fewer cleaning ingredients in the product, you can experience build-up. Did you not wash enough with shampoo? Then it is possible that product leftovers start to pile up. As a result, your skin can become itchy and you can suffer from dandruff. Do you keep having an itchy scalp? Then there are special CG products that can help with this.
