Pretty Curly Girl Hair Products: review, explanation, and advice

Pretty Curly Girl is a brand that has been around since 2019 and was founded by Hanan from the Netherlands.

The idea came about because it was very popular in curly hair communities to use lubricant on your hair. This can be quite awkward for some people to shop for, and Hanan cleverly responded to this with a special curly hair product that was a huge success from the start!

More about the Pretty Curly Girl brand

After the successful launch of the serum, more products followed, such as a flaxseed gel (which was also often made in curly hair communities). The annoying thing about DIY products is that they quickly expire, so she created a flaxseed gel with a special natural formula that was suitable for everyone!

This is Pretty Curly Girl's very first product (the packaging has since been updated).

She also wanted her brand to be convenient: the products are characterized by a clear step-by-step system. All hair products are divided into three categories: washing, conditioning, and styling. A handy 3-step system that keeps you organized and makes it easy to start a curl routine.

Ingredients

Although they don't really promote it, Pretty Curly Girl is a fairly natural brand. It is free of synthetic ingredients and the focus is really on the most natural variants of ingredients. This means that the products are also eco-proof: better for you and the world.

Gel is often made with synthetic ingredients such as PVP. Pretty Curly Girl uses natural hold agents such as Xanthan Gum and Marshmallow Root. This also provides flexible, long-lasting hold — just like PVP.

The shampoos in the range are free from harsh sulfates and cleanse your hair gently, without affecting its natural moisture content.

In addition, many Pretty Curly Girl products contain extra nourishing ingredients such as tea tree oil and peppermint oil. These natural extracts help soften and moisturize your hair, while keeping your scalp fresh and balanced.

Finally, there are many products with and without protein. Below is a brief explanation of why protein can work:

  • Without protein: perfect for dry, coarse hair that needs extra hydration.
  • With protein: ideal for fine or damaged hair that could use some strengthening and elasticity.

Curly hair routine with Pretty Curly Girl

Pretty Curly Girl distinguishes between three types of curls: wavy, curly, and coily hair. Regardless of your curl type, follow this order:

This routine will help you build a good routine.

Favorites per hair type

Below are some useful tips for each hair type.

Wavy hair

Wavy hair is often a mix of slight waves to curls at the ends. This hair type benefits from lighter products, but can use strong gels to keep the hair in shape.

Product tips for wavy hair:

Curly hair

Curly hair has clearly recognizable curls, often starting at the roots. This hair type loves balance: enough hydration, but also some firmness to allow the curls to form beautifully.

Product tips for curly hair:

Coily hair

Coily hair has tighter, spiral-shaped curls and loses moisture more quickly. It therefore needs rich, nourishing products that keep the hair supple.

Product tips for coily hair:
