Is it okay to wash your hair with shampoo?

If you follow the CG Method, you've probably heard that you shouldn't wash your hair with regular shampoo. But did you know that shampoo is essential if you have curly hair? Shampoos have improved significantly in recent years and are much milder than they were 15 years ago. So you can use them with confidence. It actually has advantages, because if your scalp isn't clean, your curls can sag and disappear more quickly. It's important to always (!) use a conditioner or mask after shampooing.

How many times a week should I wash my curls?

Most women with curly hair wash their hair 2 to 3 times a week. Do you exercise a lot or do you just like to wash your hair more often? Then you can use a co-wash on those wash days.

But we would like to make a small note: you don't have to stick to the above. You may have hair that gets greasy quickly or not at all; some people are simply more prone to this than others. Certain hair products can also build up on your hair, which can cause greasy hair or build-up. In this case, you can wash your hair more often, but who knows, maybe you don't have time for it in a certain week or your hair still looks fine? Feel free to skip it once.

Experiment to find out what works best for you. Do you feel that your curls respond better to less washing or more frequent washing? Be brave and experiment, because there is no right or wrong answer! Feel free to start with two to three times a week. Above all, do what feels right for you!

Why shouldn't you wash curls too often?

If you wash your hair too often with a very strong shampoo, it can lose its natural oils on the scalp. This means that your hair can dry out more quickly and become more brittle.

Tip: Do you want to wash your hair more often because it gets greasy quickly or because you simply prefer it that way? Then you can always apply an oil to the lengths of your hair. This will protect your hair during washing and prevent it from drying out. In addition, it is wise not to use clarifying shampoos too often when washing your hair more frequently. Choose milder varieties to protect your hair as much as possible.

Will washing make my curls frizzy?

If you regularly use a shampoo with aggressive cleansers, your hair can become frizzy more quickly. However, if you use a milder shampoo, there is no problem and you can wash your hair without it becoming frizzy. However, it is very important to always use a conditioner after washing. This not only helps to care for your hair, but also prevents it from becoming frizzy.
