Abbey Yung Method vs. CG Method?
As you can see, this method certainly has similarities with the Curly Girl Method. However, there are a number of points that we do not recommend:
- Using hair oil between washes can weigh down the hair. We therefore prefer to use a light refresh spray.
- Within the Abbey Yung Method, it does not matter which ingredients a product contains. We continue to advise avoiding products with silicones, sulfates, and drying alcohol.
- The method recommends using a conditioner after a hair mask. We believe that this can be a bit too much in some cases.
- If you have curly hair, you often don't use heat tools such as straighteners or blow-dry brushes. A diffuser is safe to use because it distributes air evenly, so a heat protector is not always necessary.
Do you have curly hair and are you curious to see if the Abbey Yung Method works for you? Then you can always draw inspiration from it. After all, it's fun to try new things. We hope this step-by-step plan gives you a good foundation to get started.

It has been going viral on TikTok and Instagram since the summer of 2025: the Abbey Yung Method. If you are not yet familiar with it, it is a hair routine devised by a popular influencer. In this blog, we will tell you what the method entails, whether it is suitable for curly hair, and what steps you need to follow.
Who is Abbey Yung?
Abbey Yung is an influencer who mainly focuses on everything related to beauty, with an emphasis on skin and hair. She tests products from global brands and shares her honest opinion about them. She also gives tips on how to best use certain products. On her profile, she also states that she is a certified trichologist. A trichologist specializes in hair and scalp problems.
Abbey has been sharing content about hair care and the use of various products for quite some time. In June 2025, she linked her own name to this routine and shared it on Instagram and TikTok: the Abbey Yung Method.
What is the Abbey Young Method?
Where the Curly Girl Method focuses primarily on avoiding certain ingredients, the Abbey Yung Method places less emphasis on this.
The method does have many overlapping parts with the CG method. For example, it is also popular in the curly hair world to do a pre-wash and protect the hair during washing. In addition, a clarifying wash is also part of the Curly Girl Method, as is the use of a leave-in and other care products.
Abbey Yung's method is quite extensive in its basic form. On her profile, she herself indicates that you can follow smaller routines, for example with 3 to 6 (or more) products. Below, we explain all the steps of the Abbey Yung Method and give direct product tips.
Steps Abbey Yung Method
Step 1: Pre-Shampoo Bond Repair Treatment
Apply a pre-shampoo bond repair treatment once or twice a week, 10 minutes before washing your hair.
Step 2: Pre-Shampoo Oil
Do you have severely damaged hair, or is your hair dry and prone to tangling? Then apply a pre-shampoo oil about 20 minutes before washing.
Please note: skip this step on days when you already use a pre-shampoo bond repair treatment (step 1).
Step 3: Clarifying Shampoo
Use a clarifying shampoo once a week. According to this method, you can also do this more often.
Step 4: Non-Clarifying Shampoo
Alternate this shampoo with the clarifying shampoo. So, use a clarifying shampoo once a week (as a guideline) and a non-clarifying shampoo on all other wash days. This could be a CG shampoo that is free from strong cleansers.

Step 4 (part 2): Medicated shampoos
Do you suffer from dandruff, itching, or other scalp complaints? Then, instead of a mild shampoo, use a medicated shampoo that targets your specific complaints.
Step 5: Bond Repair Treatments
Use a bond repair treatment once a week. Although some products are recommended before washing, this method recommends using it after shampooing. The hair is then clean and can better absorb the treatment.
Step 6: Conditioner or hair mask
Always use a conditioner or hair mask after washing. According to Abbey, you can also use both during one wash if your hair needs it.
Step 7: Post-Wash Bond Repair Treatment
After rinsing out your conditioner or hair mask, apply a post-wash bond repair treatment. Leave it on for about 10 minutes before moving on to the next step. Use this product once or twice a week.
This is an optional step if you already use another bond repair treatment, such as a pre-wash (step 1).
Step 8: Leave-in & Heat Protection
After washing, apply a leave-in conditioner or a heat protector. Do this after every wash.

Step 9: Styling
After the leave-in, you can get started with stylers. Abbey recommends any styler that works well for you. For curly hair, we recommend using a hair gel.
Step 10: Style Sealers
Do you need extra shine, hydration, or softness? Then use a serum, oil, or lotion after your styler. A serum is often the lightest to use. If you have drier hair, a hair oil is a good choice.
Step 11: Care between washes – Overnight
Does your hair feel dry or get tangled easily? Then you can use an overnight treatment to make your hair soft and shiny again.
Step 11 (part 2): Care between washes – Heat Protection
Do you regularly use heat styling tools? Then always use a heat protector on non-wash days.

Step 11 (part 3): Care between washes – Dry shampoo
Don't want to wash your hair yet, but want it to feel fresher? Then use a dry shampoo.
