We've all been there: you've put a lot of time into your hair and it looks great. But you wake up and your curls are frizzy and tangled. In this blog we will tell you the best way to sleep with curls. This means you don't have to wash your hair as often and you get ready quickly in the morning!
Tips for sleeping with curls
What is the best way so that your beautiful curls don't sit like a bird's nest when you wake up the next morning? In this blog we will explain a number of different methods to keep your curls at their best, so that you can find out what works best for you. So, curly heads, pay attention!
Tip 1: Never sleep with damp hair
Always sleep with dry hair ! Sleeping with wet hair can cause many problems, such as even more frizzy hair and damaged hair. Because did you know that your hair is very vulnerable when it is wet? Do you do your routine in the evening? Then make sure you blow-dry your hair or wash it earlier in the day so that it is dry while you sleep.
Tip 3: Sleep on a satin pillowcase
The smooth pillowcase is the best-known and easiest option to prevent frizzy hair in the morning. Regular pillowcases made of cotton can cause friction. This friction then causes frizzy hair and split ends.
Satin pillowcases are made in a different way than cotton varieties. The weave is different, making them a lot smoother . This prevents friction and your hair will look better in the morning.
So satin is actually a way of weaving. There are many different types of satin pillows. The most common and cheapest variant is the polyester variant. You can also get mulberry silk, which is a bit smoother and less synthetic.
Another advantage is that it is also good for your skin; it can even reduce acne or oily skin. So two birds with one stone!
To go one step further, we have had special bamboo fiber pillowcases produced. These sleep even better than satin and are also better for our environment.
3. Put a pineapple ponytail in your hair
Yes, this is a pineapple! Before going to sleep, make a high ponytail at the very top of your head (i.e., like a pineapple). You don't have to tighten it very tightly, a little looser is better, as long as it stays in place.
Another tip, use a satin scrunchie! This will prevent you from getting strange lines in your hair and prevent your hair from breaking off.
Do you have shorter hair or hair that does not fit in a high ponytail on your head? If necessary, secure your hair a little with a hair clip.
Below you can see an example of what we mean by the pineapple:
Tip 4: Sleeping with a gel cast
Did you know that you can sleep peacefully with a gel cast? This is the hard layer that can form after your hair is completely dry. So don't squeeze out the cast before you go to sleep, just leave it in place and squeeze it out in the morning. It is also possible that your cast is gone in the morning. Then use a little water, leave-in and gel to activate your curls.
Tip 5: Sleep with a bonnet or satin nightcap
One curly loves it, but the other curly prefers to skip it. A bonnet and a nightcap are actually the same thing: put the hat on before you go to sleep and take it off as soon as you wake up. You can feel free to put a pineapple in your hair to make it even easier to get it into the hat.
Although the bonnet is not always perceived as 'sexy', it is definitely worth considering as your curls will stay in place even better than when sleeping on a satin pillowcase.
So, how do you keep your curls beautiful at night?
As you have read, there are several options to keep your hair beautiful after a night of sleep. In any case, most curlies choose a satin pillowcase. We therefore recommend that you start with this. Do you notice that your hair doesn't quite want it in the morning? Then you can consider switching to a bonnet/nightcap.
